DO OUR STRUGGLES MAKE US STRONGER OR DO THEY JUST HINDER US?
Too often in life, we grow apart from our loved ones, from society, even from our responsibilities. We get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that we sometimes lose track of what’s important. But life has a way of guiding us back to the elements and people on which we need to focus. Sometimes, the transition back to our life’s purpose is smooth. Other times, we’ve gotten so far off track that the only way to refocus ourselves is through a challenging situation. The question is: Do those struggles make us stronger, or do they just hinder us?
OUR STRUGGLES ALLOW US TO EVOLVE AS PEOPLE
The difficulties we encounter always seem to come at the most inopportune times, and sometimes it seems as though others don’t understand our plight. But there’s a reason for this: Everyone’s hardships are different because everyone’s values are different. When a person’s values are threatened, they become aggravated and bothered. It’s during those hard times when people are overwrought, uncertain of how they’re going to overcome whatever struggle is hindering them. They may question their every move, afraid that whatever they do will be a step in the wrong direction, which would only result in things worsening.
But as agonizing as those hardships are to go through, they are pertinent for us all to go through to evolve. Our struggles prevent us from becoming complacent. This is apparent in people who constantly complain about their job but refuses to search for something else. Or those whose New Year’s Resolution is always to lose weight, yet they refuse to get off the couch. Sadly, some people must experience tragedy to become the people they’re meant to be. Some people never find the courage to search for a better job until getting fired. Only after contracting a life-threatening illness do some people start taking care of their body.
Overcoming difficulties brings respect, as others see that we fought against those struggles, not allowed them to handicap us
Just think about how calm we are after overcoming a difficult time. Often, we’re able to look back on that hardship with an appreciation for the lesson and skills we’ve learned. Clarity replaces uncertainty, tranquility overrides stress and, sometimes, success evolves from what appeared to be an imminent failure. So, have we gained anything after going through hard times? Yes, we gain confidence and the awareness that we have strength and power to overcome anything. We may also gain respect, as others see that we fought against those struggles, not allowed them to handicap us.
OUR STRUGGLES MAY SEEM DEBILITATING BUT OVERCOMING THEM EMPOWERS US
Unfortunately, some people whine and wait for others to fight their battles for them. Although it is okay to ask for help when needed, doing it too often can prevent a person from growing. The battles we encounter can be scary, but the only way to remove that fear and succeed is to face them (sometimes alone). Let’s consider learning: even the simple task of studying can be daunting for some people. Therefore, many don’t explore the job they’ve always wanted because they refuse to go to college. But as dull as studying may be, it equips us with knowledge we can use in all things we do. Though our struggles may seem debilitating, putting in the effort to overcome them can be empowering.
STRUGGLES OFTEN DIRECT OUR LIVES IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
